Keyshia Myeshia Cole (née Johnson; born October 15, 1981) is a singer, songwriter, and television personality from the United States. Cole, who was born and reared in Oakland, California, began her career as a backup vocalist for MC Hammer. In 2005, she released her debut studio album, The Way It Is, after signing with A&M Records. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album platinum, and it received two nominations at the 2006 Soul Train Music Awards. Cole starred in the BET reality television series Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is (2006-2008), which became one of the network’s most-watched shows.
The singles “I Ain’t Through” and “Take Me Away” appeared on Cole’s fourth album, Calling All Hearts (2010). Woman to Woman (2012), her fifth studio album, debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200. It gave birth to the tune “Enough of No Love,” which reached the top ten on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. She appeared in the reality series Keyshia & Daniel: Family First the same year. Point of No Return (2014) was released under Interscope, while 11:11 Reset (2017) was released under Epic.
Cole, dubbed the “Princess of Hip-Hop Soul” by reviewers, is well renowned for her soulful vocals. Her work has earned her a slew of honors and prizes, including an ASCAP Award and a Billboard Music Award. She hosted the Fox Soul syndicated television discussion show One on One with Keyshia Cole from 2019 to 2020.
