Craig A. Miller (born October 24, 1969), best known by his stage name Kam, is an American rapper who rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s among hip-hop fans and music journalists.
He is well-known for his Nation of Islam-inspired songs, NOI membership, and ties to his cousin, fellow West Coast emcee Ice Cube. He is also recognized for his imposing baritone voice and penchant for multisyllabic rhymes. Since his well-received debut album Neva Again in 1993, he has only recorded two albums. That album included incendiary anti-government lyrics and the smash ballad “Peace Treaty,” which was inspired by the Watts gang truce of 1992. In 1993, the song peaked at number two on the Hot Rap Singles chart.
His debut recorded performance was with the song “Every Single Weekend” from the Boyz n the Hood soundtrack in 1991. He has worked with many artists since then, including Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Coolio, E-40, Erick Sermon, MC Ren, C-Bo, K9Compton, DJ Quik, DJ Pooh, The Eastsidaz, Method Man, KRS-One, Public Enemy, Nate Dogg, Warren G, Paris, Tha Dogg Pound, Xzibit, Tyrese, Tank, George Clinton, Dresta, B. East West Records and JCOR Entertainment have both released music under his name. He is presently signed to his own record company, HEREAFTER RECORDS, and aims to release his fourth solo album in the near future. He is also a part of Snoop Dogg’s West Coast ensemble The Warzone, which includes MC Eiht and Goldie Loc. Kam and his biological younger brother, “Yung Bruh,” are also members of the NOI-based rap trio Fruit Pruno. During the NOI’s Saviour’s Day 2010 conference, they launched their self-titled album (specifically on February 28, 2010).
