Kathleen Mary Griffin (born November 4, 1960) is a comedian and actress from the United States who has appeared in television comedy specials and recorded comedy CDs. Griffin received two Primetime Emmy Awards for her reality program Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List in 2007 and 2008. She has also starred in films as a supporting actress. Griffin was born in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park. She relocated to Los Angeles in 1978, where she studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and joined the improvisational comedy company The Groundlings. Griffin began doing stand-up comedy in the 1990s and appeared as a guest star on television series such as the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan. (1996–2000).
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (2005-2010) was a rating success for Bravo, earning her two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program. Griffin has six comedy albums to her credit, all of which have won Grammy nominations. For Your Consideration (2008), her debut album, earned her the first female comic to debut at the top of the Billboard Top Comedy Albums list. Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin, her autobiography, was published in 2009. She won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album in 2014 after being nominated for six years in a row.
