Juan Atkins (born September 12, 1962), better known as Model 500 and Infiniti is a Detroit, Michigan-based record producer, and DJ. He was a part of The Belleville Three, Cybotron, and Borderland, and was dubbed “the original pioneer of Detroit techno” by Mixmag.
In 1980, Juan Atkins and Richard Davis founded Cybotron. Enter, the duo’s debut studio album, was released in 1983. In 1985, Atkins and Davis parted ways.
Atkins launched the record label Metroplex in 1985. That same year, he began producing solo material under the nickname Model 500. Deep Space was published as Model 500 in 1995, Mind and Body in 1999, and Digital Solutions in 2015.
He is also a member of the Borderland duo with Moritz von Oswald. Borderland was released in 2013 and Transport was released in 2016.
Juan Atkins teamed with VAVA Eyewear in 2015 to commemorate Metroplex’s 30th anniversary.
