Jordin Sparks-Thomas is an American singer and actress who was born on December 22, 1989. She soared to popularity in 2007 after winning the sixth season of American Idol at age 17, becoming the youngest champion in the series’ history. Later that year, she released her self-titled debut studio album, which has already sold over two million copies worldwide and earned a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The Billboard Hot 100 top-ten songs “Tattoo” and “No Air,” which were both produced by the album, are presently the third and third-highest-selling singles by American Idol contestants, respectively, with over three million digital copies sold in the country. Sparks received her first Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for the song.
Battlefield, Sparks’ second studio album, debuted on the Billboard 200 list at position seven. Sparks is the only American Idol finalist to have had her first five singles reach the top 20 in the United States with its lead single peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. “S.O.S. (Let the Music Play),” the second single, became Sparks’ first Hot Dance Club Play chart-topper. Sparks has won multiple awards throughout her career, including two Teen Choice Awards, an NAACP Image Award, a BET Award, an American Music Award, and a People’s Choice Award. She was listed as the 91st Artist of the 2000s Decade in 2009 by Billboard magazine.
