James Blunt (born James Hillier Blount on February 22, 1974) is a singer, songwriter, and musician from England. He was a former reconnaissance officer in the British Army’s Life Guards regiment during the 1999 Kosovo War. He soared to prominence in 2004 with the publication of his debut album Back to Bedlam, garnering worldwide fame with the singles “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover” after leaving the service.
Blunt’s debut album sold over 11 million copies worldwide, topping the UK Albums Chart and reaching number two in the United States. “You’re Beautiful” reached number one in the United Kingdom, the United States, and a dozen more countries. Back to Bedlam was the best-selling album in the UK throughout the 2000s, and it remains one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. Blunt’s records have sold over 20 million copies globally. He has won various prizes, including two Brit prizes (Best British Male in 2006), two MTV Video Music Awards, and two Ivor Novello Awards, as well as five Grammy Award nominations and an Honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of Bristol in 2016.
