American underground hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics, commonly known as the Hieroglyphics Crew and Hiero, is based in Oakland, California. Early in the 1990s, rapper Del the Funky Homosapien established the collaboration. Rappers Del the Funky Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, producer/manager Domino, DJ Toure, and the four individuals who make up the rap group Souls of Mischief—Phesto, A-Plus, Opio, and Tajai—make up the collective at the moment.
From their inception, Hieroglyphics have gained popularity mostly as a result of their live performances, podcasts (dubbed “Hierocasts”), and website advertising.
On their records, website, stickers, and clothes, the group prominently displays a three-eyed, straight-lipped face emblem.
