Shelton Hank Williams III (born December 12, 1972) is an American musician, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist recognized for his unique combination of traditional country music, rockabilly, heavy metal, and punk rock. He was the drummer for Arson Anthem and the former bassist for Phil Anselmo’s band Superjoint Ritual. He has eleven studio albums to his credit, five of which were released on Curb Records. Williams is Hank Williams’ grandson, Hank Williams Jr.’s son, Jett Williams’ nephew, Holly Williams’ half-brother, and Coleman Williams’ father.
During the late 1980s and early-to-mid 1990s, Williams spent much of his early career playing drums in punk rock bands. During this time, Williams learned that he had fathered a son, Coleman Finchum, who was five at the time; a family court judge ordered Williams to obtain more permanent employment so that Finchum could receive child support.
Williams then played bass guitar in the heavy metal band Superjoint Ritual, which has since been renamed Superjoint for legal reasons and is led by former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo. Williams also played drums for Arson Anthem, a sludge metal band created by Anselmo and Mike Williams of Eyehategod.
