Graveyard was founded in 2006 by Joakim Nilsson, Rikard Edlund (both formerly of Norrsken), Axel Sjöberg, and Truls Mörck. When Norrsken dissolved in 2000, guitarist Magnus Pelander formed the doomy folk metal outfit Witchcraft, and Nilsson and Edlund joined Albatross, a growly blues rock band that also featured Sjöberg on drums. Albatross began as a hobby project, but after five years, the members began to take their music more seriously and became dissatisfied with the path their sound had taken. When Albatross disbanded, Nilsson and Edlund decided to return to their roots as musicians and songwriters for their new project. “I am a singer, but in Albatross I simply played guitar,” Nilsson explains. Rikard used to play guitar, but now he plays bass. We also desired a more direct rock sound.”
Graveyard announced their breakup on September 23, 2016, citing “all so traditional reasons.” Graveyard announced their reunion on January 26, 2017, with a new drummer after drummer Axel Sjöberg elected to stay with his new band. The band stated on its Facebook page on December 18, 2017, that they were working on a new album. The album’s title, Peace, was confirmed by the band on March 22, 2018. On May 25, 2018, it was released.
