Dennis Coles, better known by his stage name Ghostface Killah, is an American rapper and a part of the Wu-Tang Clan. He was born on May 9, 1970. The members of the group continued to pursue solo careers to varied degrees of success after the group experienced breakthrough popularity following the release of Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Ironman, Ghostface Killah’s solo first album, was highly acclaimed by music critics in 1996. He continued to be successful in the years that followed, releasing albums that were well-received, including Supreme Clientele (2000) and Fishscale (2006). His stage name was derived from a character in the kung fu movie The Secret of Chess Boxing from 1979. Starks Enterprises, his own record company, was founded by him.
Ghostface Killah is well-known for his boisterous, rapid-fire flow and his emotionally charged, nonsequiturs and cryptic slang-filled storytelling. In 2006, MTV included him as an “honorable mention” on their list of the “Greatest MCs of All Time,” and the editors of About.com listed him on their list of the “Top 50 MCs of Our Time (1987-2007), calling him “one of the most imaginative storytellers of our time.”
