Foreigner is a British-American rock band founded in 1976 in New York City by experienced British guitarist and songwriter Mick Jones, fellow Briton and ex-King Crimson member Ian McDonald, and American vocalist Lou Gramm. Jones chose the moniker since he, McDonald, and Dennis Elliott were British, whilst Gramm, Al Greenwood, and Ed Gagliardi were American.
Foreigner is one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, having sold more than 80 million records worldwide, including 37.5 million in the United States. For many years, the sole remaining founding member was band leader Mick Jones.
