Felix da Housecat (born Felix Stallings Jr. on August 25, 1971) is a DJ and record producer from the United States best known for house music and electro. Felix is considered a member of Chicago house’s second wave.
From an early age, Stallings became interested in the emerging Chicago house music scene. A serendipitous meeting with acid house pioneer DJ Pierre as a student at Rich East High School in Park Forest, Illinois in the mid-1980s gave the then-15-year-old Stallings his break, and under Pierre’s patronage and mentorship, he released his first single, “Phantasy Girl,” in 1987.
Felix also attended Alabama State University in 1987 to study media and communication. He studied other musicians of the time, such as Prince, A Tribe Called Quest, and Gang Starr, while also developing an interest in hip hop and R&B recordings.
