Hip hop musician Derrick Lemel Stewart, also known as Fatlip, was born in Los Angeles on March 26, 1968. He began his musical career with The Pharcyde, a hip-hop group.
As a member of The Pharcyde, Fatlip made contributions to both the follow-up album Labcabincalifornia and the critically acclaimed Bizarre Ride II by the Pharcyde. Fatlip was expelled from the band after the Labcabincalifornia album was released, in part because he skipped the supporting tour for their second album in favor of working on his own solo projects.
In 2019, Fatlip made an appearance on the song “Oh Hell You Motherfuckin’ Right” from The Mighty Rhino’s third studio album, A Joy Which Nothing Can Erase. The song, which also included Ultra Magnus, was written by DJ Digital Junkie and produced by Myer Clarity.
2020 saw the debut of a joint effort by Fatlip, Blu, and Samuel T. Herring (also known as Hemlock Ernst). “Good For The Soul” was the title of the song. Fatlip also worked on the song “For You” that same year alongside Percee P and Phil Da Agony.
