Amy Lee, a singer, and guitarist, and Ben Moody, a guitarist, formed the American rock group Evanescence in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995. Evanescence released their debut studio album, Fallen, on Wind-up Records in 2003 after producing two indie EPs as a duet in the late 1990s and a demo CD. Fallen sold more than four million copies in the US by January 2004 thanks to the popularity of smash singles including “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal,” earning the band two Grammy Awards out of six nominations. Anywhere but Home, the band’s debut live CD and concert DVD, was released in 2004 and has since sold over a million copies worldwide.
Lee and guitarist Terry Balsamo co-wrote Evanescence’s second studio album, The Open Door, which was released in 2006. It sold more than six million copies worldwide and garnered a Grammy nomination. Following the addition of touring guitarist Troy McLawhorn, bassist Tim McCord, and drummer Will Hunt as full-time members, they reunited in June 2009 to begin writing the songs for their upcoming album. Evanescence, the group’s third studio album, was made available in 2011. Together with the Billboard Rock Albums, Digital Albums, Alternative Albums, and Hard Rock Albums charts, it debuted at the top of the Billboard 200.
