Elbow is an English rock band that formed in 1997 in Bury, Greater Manchester. Guy Garvey (lead vocals, guitar), Craig Potter (keyboard, piano, backing vocals), Mark Potter (guitar, backing vocals), and Pete Turner (bass guitar, backing vocals) make up the band. They’ve been playing together since 1990 and took the name Elbow in 1997. In 2016, drummer Alex Reeves took over for Richard Jupp.
Asleep in the Back (2001), Cast of Thousands (2003), Leaders of the Free World (2005), The Seldom Seen Kid (2008), and Build a Rocket Boys! (2010) are the band’s studio albums. (2011), Everything Takes Off and Lands (2014), Little Fictions (2017), Giants of All Sizes (2019), and Flying Dream 1 (2021). Their studio albums, as well as the B-sides compilation Dead in the Boot (2012), have charted in the top 15 in the United Kingdom. Seven of their singles charted in the top 40 in the United Kingdom. Flying Dream 1, their most recent album, was released on November 19, 2021.
Elbow won the Mercury Music Prize in 2008 for their album The Seldom Seen Kid, and the Brit Award for Best British Group in 2009. They released “First Steps” in 2012, the BBC theme for the London Olympics.
