Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are an American folk rock band that formed in 2005 in Los Angeles, California. Alex Ebert, the group’s singer, is in charge. The name of the band is derived from a fiction Ebert wrote as a child about a messianic person named Edward Sharpe. The band’s image and sound resemble the hippie movement of the 1960s and 1970s, drawing on roots rock, folk, gospel, and psychedelic music. The Troubadour in West Hollywood, California, hosted the group’s first gig on July 18, 2007. Up from Below, their first studio album was released on Community Records on July 7, 2009, and includes the successful single “Home.” On May 29, 2012, the group released their second full-length album, Here, and on July 23, 2013, they released their third album, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. PersonA, their fourth studio album, was released in April 2016.
