The English rock group Duran Duran was founded in Birmingham in 1978 by guitarist/bassist John Taylor, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, and singer and bassist Stephen Duffy. The band went through a number of lineup changes before settling on its most famous line-up in May 1980 with the arrival of guitarist Andy Taylor and lead vocalist Simon Le Bon the following year.

Billboard estimates that Duran Duran has sold over 100 million records. They have 30 UK top 40 singles (14 of which reached the top 10) and 21 American Billboard Hot 100 top 40 singles to their credit. The group has received various honors over the course of its career, including two Brit Awards, two Grammy Awards, an MTV Video Music Award for Lifetime Achievement, and a Video Visionary Award from the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2004. A star was also bestowed upon them on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The group was a member of the 2022 class that was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
