Dr. Dog is a rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Toby Leaman (bass guitar), Scott McMicken (lead guitar), Frank McElroy (rhythm guitar), Zach Miller (keyboard), Eric Slick (drums), and Michael Libramento make up the band (percussion, lap steel, acoustic guitar, bass). Leaman and McMicken share lead vocal duties, with all members adding harmonies. Furthermore, each band member has a nickname that begins with the letter T, and they have indicated that friends of the band also get nicknames based on features of their lives and personalities. (Former member Andrew “Trial” Jones is a licensed attorney, for example.)
The band’s indie rock musical style is heavily influenced by 1960s bands such as The Beatles and The Beach Boys, but they have also dabbled in more unrelated genres since its inception. Their earlier releases reflect the lo-fi sound and pop sensibilities of 1990s indie rock bands like Guided by Voices and Pavement, however recent albums have had more polished production.
