French keyboardist Domi Louna and American drummer JD Beck make up the jazz combo known as Domi and JD Beck (stylized as DOMi & JD BECK). They first met in 2018, and since then, they’ve collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Thundercat, and Anderson.Paak, Herbie Hancock, Eric Andre, Ariana Grande, Earl Sweatshirt, Bruno Mars, and many more. In 2022, as a duet, they issued their first song, “Smile,” and their debut album, Not Tight. For Not Tight, they were nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2022: Best New Artist and Best Modern Instrumental Album.
“Smile,” the lead song from Domi and JD Beck’s debut album, was released in April 2022 as a result of their signing with Anderson.label Paak’s Apeshit, which collaborated with Blue Note Records. The pair appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on July 18, 2022. to perform “Take a Chance,” their song, alongside Anderson.Paak. The pair put out their first studio album, Not Tight, on July 29, 2022. Thundercat, Mac Demarco, Anderson.Paak, Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and Kurt Rosenwinkel are among the artists who appear on the album. Not Tight received favorable reviews. Based on 5 reviews, the album has an overall Metacritic score of 82. The disc has received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
