DJ Green Lantern is the stage name of James Christopher D’Agostino, a hip-hop DJ and producer from Rochester, New York, who was born on July 7, 1975. In 2002, after DJ Head resigned from Shady Records for unspecified reasons, D’Agostino was hired by American rapper Eminem to serve as the label’s official DJ.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, DJ Green Lantern rose to fame with his distinctive mixtape style. These tapes’ originality drew the attention of many influential people in the business, including Eminem. the first round of mixtapes from Eminem’s Shady Records that are sponsored officially. The DJ broke multiple diss recordings on the trilogy of mixtapes (eventually to become the Armageddon series), which extended the conflicts between Ja Rule and Murder Inc., the entire Shady camp, and Benzino/The Source.
His own mixtapes contain a number of “Green Remixes,” most notably a remix of the Nas and Tupac Shakur song “Thugz Mansion.” He also produced D-“2 Block’s Guns Up,” a popular street single that started out as a freestyle rap on his Hot 97 radio show, “In the Lab” (the most memorable of which has also appeared as a mixtape, “The Best of In the Lab”). The structure of “In the Lab” is a one-hour mix show (with commercials) in which DJ Green Lantern mashes up a cappella and instrumental tracks from various artists as well as introducing fresh and underground music (such as the Ghostface Killah and El-Producto collaboration “HideYaFace”).
