Devin Star Tailes, better known by his stage name Dev (also abbreviated as DEV or dEV), was born on July 2, 1989, and is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, model, and radio host. After a friend of Dev’s posted a video of her singing on Myspace, the Cataracs and the record company Indie-Pop found her there. The Far East Movement hit single “Like a G6,” which peaked at number one in the US and sold more than four million downloads there, sampled Dev’s song “Booty Bounce” in its chorus.
In October 2010, Dev signed with Universal Republic. On November 16, 2010, she released “Bass Down Low,” her debut single, which debuted in the UK’s top 10. The Night the Sun Came Up, her debut album, was released on March 27, 2012. Her most popular solo song to date, “In the Dark,” from the album, peaked at number 11 on the US list. Dev released two EPs in 2014—Bittersweet July and the second part, which served as a sequel to part one. She is a radio host for the well-known station Beats 1 by Apple, which was established in 2015.
With the help of Nef the Pharaoh, Dev began promoting her second album in the middle of 2016. The lead song from the album, “#1,” peaked in the top 15 on the Billboard Rhythmic Songs chart. I Only See You When I’m Dreamin’, Dev’s second studio album, is her first full-length release since 2011’s The Night the Sun Came Up. It features the singles “All I Want Do” and “Come at Me,” and it became pre-orderable in July 2017.
