Martijn Westerholt, a former keyboardist for Within Temptation, founded the Dutch symphonic metal band Delain in 2002 with the intention of it being just a side project. In 2005, singer Charlotte Wessels received an invitation to join. The Kingdom of Delain in Stephen King’s book The Eyes of the Dragon is where the band gets its name. The members made the decision to split up in February 2021. Westerholt indicated that a new lineup including both previous and new members will be available in June 2021.
