Bury Your Dead is a Boston, Massachusetts-based metalcore band that formed in 2001. Guitarist Chris Towning, lead vocalist Mat Bruso, drummer Mark Castillo, and bassist Aaron Patrick make up the current lineup. They have eight studio albums and one EP (Bury Your Dead), one live DVD (Alive), and six EPs (You Had Me at Hey, Cover Your Tracks, Beauty and the Breakdown, Burry Your Dead, It’s Nothing Personal, and Mosh N’ Roll).
Bury Your Dead originated as a side project of Hamartia in 2001, with drummer Mark Castillo and guitarist Brendan “Slim” MacDonald. With Hamartia’s metalcore sound becoming boring to both of them, they began producing less technical songs in their spare time. They hired Steve Kent to play bass, Jesse Viens as the second guitarist, and Joe Krewko as the vocalist and began playing performances in Massachusetts and Connecticut as Bury Your Dead. The band was courted by Alveran/Eulogy when word of their uncontrolled intensity and violent live show traveled quickly among the East Coast hardcore communities.
In March 2002, the band recorded and published their debut album, You Had Me at Hello, and subsequently toured in support of it. Bury Your Dead decided to split up after several successful tours. Castillo returned to Philadelphia and continued touring with Between the Buried and Me, while bassist Rich Casey returned to his own screen-printing business and MacDonald joined the band Blood Has Been Shed.
