The band formed in Dunwoody, Georgia, after guitarist Cole Alexander and bassist Jared Swilley left the Renegades and guitarist Ben Eberbaugh departed the Reruns. Alexander and Swilley were well-known for their obscene pranks, both on stage and at school. They were booted out of school during their senior year following the Columbine Massacre in 1999 because they were deemed a “subculture menace.” Drummer Joe Bradley, who had been studying in college after completing high school early, joined a few months later. They published their debut 7-inch in 2002, using tunes from their first studio Record, which was completed in 2000 with producer/guitarist Eric Gagnon of The El Caminos. The 7-inch included Ain’t Coming Back, B 52 Bomberboy, Can’t Get Me Down, and Stone Cold, all of which were tracked, mixed, and mastered by Gagnon and published on Die Slaughterhaus, their own record label. In December 2002, just days before the start of a tour, guitarist Ben Eberbaugh was driving a car when he was killed by a drunk driver. The band continued, believing that Eberbaugh would want them to.
The band announced their signing to Fire Records in October 2019. The band’s ninth studio album, ‘Sing In A World That’s Coming Apart,’ was published on January 24, 2020, by Fire Records in collaboration with Vice. On the review aggregate site Metacritic, the album has a score of 76 out of 100, indicating “Generally good reviews”, with PopMatters praising the record as a “near-perfect offering”.
