Rapper One Be Lo (also known as OneManArmy), who previously collaborated with rapper Senim Silla to form the group Binary Star, is a hip-hop artist. When they were both inmates in the Hiawatha Correctional Center in 1998, the couple met and started the group.
Waterworld, Binary Star’s self-titled debut album, was released in 1999 by Terrorist Records on a $500 budget. The couple then made a thorough tour of Michigan because they were both on parole and were not allowed to leave the state. Waterworld was made to collect money for the creation of the “real record,” Masters of the Universe.
Essentially a remix of Waterworld, Lords of the Universe attracted more attention and sold over 20,000 copies. Although they reformed in 2002 to play at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, Binary Star split up soon after, citing creative disagreements. They later toured together once more in 2009–2010.
To commemorate the duo’s 15th anniversary, Binary Star released their first album since Masters of the Universe in 2013 together with a self-titled EP.
Without Senim Silla’s involvement, One Be Lo released Water World 3 in 2017 under the Binary Star moniker. Instead, the album included a number of guests, such as Mahogany Jones, Mic Phelps, and Malaki. Decompoze, who also produced the majority of Masters of the Universe, and One Be Lo produced the album.
