American composer, DJ, and record producer Benjamin Joseph Levin, also known as Benny Blanco (all lowercase), was born on March 8, 1988. The Songwriters Hall of Fame has given him the 2013 Hal David Starlight Award. In addition, he has received five BMI Songwriter of the Year awards and was named 2017’s iHeartRadio Producer of the Year.
Dr. Luke, a producer, and composer served as Blanco’s initial mentor before signing him to his Kasz Money Productions label. Blanco co-produced and co-wrote a ton of successful singles in the late 2000s and later while studying under him. By collaborating with artists like Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Halsey, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Kesha, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Sia, The Weeknd, Avicii, Selena Gomez, Adam Lambert, Charlie Puth, Keith Urban, Tory Lanez, Wiz Khalifa, J Balvin, Kali Uchis, and Juice Wrld, Blanco has helped sell more than 500 million albums worldwide. In July 2018, Blanco debuted as a lead artist with the release of “Eastside,” a song he wrote with Halsey and Khalid.
On the Billboard Hot 100, the song reached at number nine, making it Blanco’s first top ten single with performer credit and his 27th top ten songs with songwriter credit (including seven number ones). “Eastside” was a worldwide hit as well, reaching number one on the charts in various nations, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, and Norway, as well as number one in New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Following the release of “Eastside,” he collaborated on the tracks “I Found You” with Calvin Harris, “Better to Lie” with Jesse and Swae Lee, “Roses” (also with Brendon Urie), and “Graduation” with Juice Wrld before releasing his debut album later that year.
