American musical duo Beach House was founded in Baltimore in 2004. Victoria Legrand (vocals, piano) and Alex Scally make up the group (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals). After releasing their critically acclaimed self-titled first album in 2006, they went on to release Devotion (2008), Teen Dream (2010), Bloom (2012), Depression Cherry (2015), Praise Your Lucky Stars (2015), B-sides and Rarities (2017), 7, and Once Twice Melody (2022).
Prominent hip-hop and R&B acts have sampled Beach House’s songs. 2011’s “The Party & the After Party” and “Loft Music” by The Weeknd included samples of “Master of None” and “Gila,” respectively. For his breakthrough song “Money Trees,” Kendrick Lamar sampled “Silver Soul,” while the rap trio G-Side used “10 Mile Stereo” in their song “How Far.” Beach House has also served as an inspiration for other tracks and singers. Beach House’s album Bloom was one of the 10 recordings that transformed Wayne Coyne’s life, according to the Flaming Lips member. Pop duo The Chainsmokers wrote the song “Beach House” as a tribute to listening to Beach House.
