Nigerian Afrobeat singer and songwriter Michael Adebayo Olayinka, often known as Ruger, was born on September 23, 1999. In 2021, Ruger and D’Prince “Jonzing World record” agreed to a record deal for publishing and distribution with Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment, U.K. He released his debut EP, Pandemic, on March 4, 2021.
The Pandemic EP’s breakout single “Bounce” debuted at number 39 on the Top 50 Nigerian chart, reached number 20 on the TurnTable End of the Year chart, and peaked at number 2 on Apple Music’s top Afrobeats songs. His second EP, The Second Wave, with the lead track “Dior,” was released on November 26, 2021. It debuted at number 32 on the Top 50 chart and at number 15 on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart. Later, the song reached its highest point at the top in Nigeria, the Gambia, Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone, and Madagascar.
Afrodancehall was Ruger’s description of his music (a fusion of Afrobeats with dancehall elements).
