S1mba, Leonard Simbarashe Rwodzi’s stage name, is a Zimbabwean-born British singer-songwriter and rapper who was born on April 12, 1999. He rose to notoriety with his track “Rover” featuring DTG, which reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart as a result of its success on the video-sharing site TikTok, and won him his first Brit Award nomination for “Song of the Year”.
When Rwodzi was nine years old, his family relocated from Harare to Swindon because his father had been hired as the head gardener at the Oxfordshire estate of Pusey. He was exposed to music in Zimbabwe through his interactions with marimbas and djembe drums. Rwodzi built the skeleton of his musical career in England while attending church, where he first encountered gospel music. In the town of Faringdon, a market, Rwodzi attended Faringdon Community College. His debut single, “The Plan,” was eventually recorded in the college’s music studio while he was a student at New College in Swindon, where he later studied music production and music technology.
