Escatawpa, Mississippi-based 3 Doors Down is an American rock group that was founded in 1996. Brad Arnold (lead vocals, drums), Matt Roberts (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Todd Harrell made up the band’s original lineup (bass guitar). The band’s debut single, “Kryptonite,” which peaked in the top three of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, helped them gain widespread recognition. The Better Life, the band’s self-titled debut album, was then released in 2000 when they signed with Republic Records. The album earned a 7 platinum rating in the US and ranked as the 11th best-selling album of the year. Richard Liles, a drummer who played on the group’s debut album tour, later joined the group.
The band has primarily been categorized as alternative and post-grunge rock, with brief forays into hard rock and Southern rock. Their music has sold 30 million copies worldwide and features lyrics with universal themes including anxiety, rebellion, retaliation, yearning, and abandonment.
