Exo (Korean: ; RR: ekso; styled in all caps) is a South Korean-Chinese boy band headquartered in Seoul that was founded in 2011 by SM Entertainment and debuted in 2012. Xiumin, Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun are the group’s nine members. They are well-known for recording music and performing in Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese.
Exo has received numerous prizes, including five consecutive Mnet Asian Music prizes Album of the Year awards and two consecutive Melon Music Awards Artist of the Year awards, and has performed over 100 concerts throughout four headlining tours and multiple joint tours. From 2014 to 2018, the group was recognized as one of the top five most influential celebrities on the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list, and they have been dubbed the “Kings of K-pop” and the “biggest boyband in the world” by various media publications. Outside of music, the members of the group have sponsored businesses like the Nature Republic and Samsung, as well as participated in humanitarian endeavors such as Smile For U, an ongoing project launched by SM Entertainment and UNICEF in 2015.
