Taking Back Sunday is a New York-based American rock band. In 1999, guitarist Eddie Reyes and bassist Jesse Lacey established the band. For live performances, Adam Lazzara (lead vocals), John Nolan (lead guitar, keyboards, vocals), Shaun Cooper (bass guitar), and Mark O’Connell (drums) are joined by Nathan Cogan (guitar). Lacey, Reyes, bass guitarist Matthew Rubano, and guitarist-vocalists Fred Mascherino and Matthew Fazzi were all former members of the band.
Lacey left Taking Back Sunday in 1999 and established the rock band Brand New in 2000, with whom Taking Back Sunday would have a highly known conflict. Lazzara took over for the band’s original vocalist Antonio Longo before the release of Tell All Your Friends in 2002. Nolan and Cooper quit the band to establish Straylight Run in 2003, only to reunite in 2010. The band’s breakthrough album, 2006’s Louder Now, featuring the smash lead single “MakeDamnSure,” sold over 900,000 copies, and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, surpassing the band’s previous Billboard 200 record of No. 3 with Where You Want to Be in 2004.
