DNCE is a dance-rock band from the United States comprised of lead singer Joe Jonas, drummer Jack Lawless, and guitarist JinJoo Lee. Cole Whittle, a bassist, and pianist, was a member of the band from its inception in 2015 until it went on hiatus in 2018. The majority of DNCE’s music is dance-rock, dance-pop, pop-rock, and funk-pop. The band signed with Republic Records, who released their debut single “Cake by the Ocean” on September 18, 2015. The song hit the top ten on various charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, where it peaked at number nine. Swaay, their first extended play (EP), was released on October 23, 2015. On November 18, 2016, their self-titled debut studio album was released. People to People, their second EP, was released on June 15, 2018. In addition, they were nominated for Favorite New Artist at the 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards, as well as Best Song to Lip Sync and Best Anthem at the 2016 Radio Disney Music Awards. The ensemble played at the Fashion Meets Music Festival in 2017. DNCE returned from their break in February 2022 with a song called “Dancing Feet” co-written with Kygo.
