Good Charlotte is a 1996 American rock band from Waldorf, Maryland. Since 2005, the band’s lineup has included twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden (lead vocals and guitar and vocals, respectively), Paul Thomas (bass), Billy Martin (guitar and keyboards), and Dean Butterworth (drums and percussion). The band’s self-titled debut album was released in 2000 to largely favourable reviews. With their second album, The Young and the Hopeless, released in 2002, they earned breakthrough popularity. The Young and the Hopeless, which featured the smash songs “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” “The Anthem,” and “Girls & Boys,” sold 3.5 million copies in the United States and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA, for a total of over 5 million copies sold worldwide.
In 2004, the band released The Chronicles of Life and Death, a darker album both musically and thematically. The Chronicles of Life and Death, backed by the songs “Predictable” and “I Just Wanna Live,” sustained the band’s popularity, and the album was certified platinum by the RIAA, selling over one million copies in the United States alone. They released the dance-punk-influenced album Good Morning Revival in 2007, before returning to their pop-punk origins with the album Cardiology in 2010. On November 3, 2015, the band announced their return after a four-year break.
