Seether are a South African rock band from Pretoria, Gauteng, formed in 1999. Saron Gas was the band’s original name until 2002, when they relocated to the United States and changed it to Seether to prevent confusion with the deadly poison sarin gas. Shaun Morgan, the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist, has been with them the longest, while bassist Dale Stewart joined shortly after formation and drummer John Humphrey joined for the band’s second album. Corey Lowery has been the band’s second guitarist since 2018. Several renowned guitarists have performed or recorded with the band, including Corey’s brother Clint and Troy McLawhorn, although Shaun has recorded the majority of guitar parts for the band’s releases.
Seether rose to prominence in the United States with their number one Active Rock hit “Fine Again” in 2002. Their popularity continued in 2004 with the single “Broken,” which reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. They’ve had many number one singles on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including “Remedy”, “Fake It”, “Country Song”, “Tonight”, “Words as Weapons”, “Let You Down” and “Dangerous”, “Bruised and Bloodied”, and “Wasteland”. The band has eight studio albums to their credit, the most recent of which, Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum, was published on August 28, 2020.
