Jimmy Eat World is an American rock band founded in Mesa, Arizona in 1993. Jim Adkins, lead vocalist and guitarist, rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist Tom Linton, bassist Rick Burch, and drummer Zach Lind make up the band. They’ve released ten studio albums, the last nine of which feature the present lineup.
The four-piece’s commercial breakthrough came with the release of six singles from their 2001 album Bleed American, four of which scored in the top 20 of the Alternative Songs chart, with “The Middle” reaching No. 1. Futures (2004), their follow-up album, contained the No. 1 single “Pain.”
The RIAA certified Bleed American platinum and Futures gold, recognizing the two albums for collectively selling over 1.5 million records. Chase This Light (2007), the band’s sixth studio album, became their highest-charting album, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Surviving, the band’s tenth album was released in October 2019.
