Nick Rivera Caminero (born March 17, 1981) is an American musician and actor better known as Nicky Jam. He is well known for songs like “X,” “Travesuras,” “En la Cama,” “Te Busco,” “El Perdón,” “Hasta el Amanecer,” and “El Amante,” all of which are on his 2017 album Fénix. While his early songs highlighted classic fast-paced reggaeton, his current compositions place greater emphasis on spoken vocals and love lyrics. He has regularly collaborated with other Latin musicians such as Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Ozuna, Plan B, and Anuel AA.
His family migrated to Puerto Rico when he was ten years old after he was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts to a Dominican mother and a Puerto Rican father. With his first EP…Distinto a los demás (1995), he began producing songs at the age of fourteen and finally gained the notice of Daddy Yankee. Los Cangris was created by the two and was active from the late 1990s through 2004.
He subsequently relocated to Medelln, Colombia, to revitalize his career and produce a more melodic style of music, which proved popular with the release of the singles “Voy a Beber” and “Travesuras” in 2014. His success was boosted by the release of his 2015 single “El Perdón” and his 2017 album Fénix. In 2019, he released the critically and commercially successful album ntimo. Nicky Jam has also appeared in the films XXX: Return of Xander Cage (2017) and Bad Boys for Life (2020), as well as the Netflix biographical series Nicky Jam: El Ganador, which he executive produced (2018).
