Joel Thomas Zimmerman (born January 5, 1981) is a Canadian electronic music producer and DJ known professionally as Deadmau5 (stylized as deadmau5; pronounced “dead-mouse”). With the alias Testpilot, he primarily produces progressive house music, but he also produces and DJs various kinds of electronic music, including techno. Zimmerman has been nominated for six Grammy Awards for his work.
Zimmerman’s commercially successful singles “The Veldt” and “Professional Griefers” (with Gerard Way) were released in 2012. Album Title Goes Here, his sixth studio album, includes these hits. Following his departure from Ultra Records, Zimmerman released his seventh studio album, While(12), in 2014 via Astralwerks and Virgin EMI. The release of the album was aided by four singles: “Avaritia,” “Seeya,” “Infra Turbo Pigcart Racer,” and “Phantoms Can’t Hang.” Zimmerman’s eighth studio album, W:/2016Album/, was released in late 2016, following a temporary break, and featured the singles “Snowcone” and “Let Go.” He later composed the score for the 2019 action film Polar, as well as the singles “Satrn,” “Coasted,” and “Fall” that same year. “Pomegranate” and “Bridged by a Lightwave” were released in 2020, ahead of his ninth studio album.
