Time named “Girlfriend” the song of the year. In response to his mother’s death, Letissier released the EP La Vida Nuova in 2020, which some critics regarded as his best work to that moment. Time picked his song “People, I’ve Been Sad” as the song of the year again.
Letissier was named first in Vanity Fair’s list of the most powerful and important French people who “advance French brilliance” in 2016, surpassing the country’s president. The next year, Forbes named him one of the 30 most influential and talented individuals under 30, and Time named him one of the Next Generation Leaders in 2016 and 2018. His achievements include four Victories de la Musique from the French Ministry of Culture. Since 2012, Christine and the Queens have been contracted to the independent record label Because Music.
