Alkaline Trio is a Chicago-based American punk rock band. Matt Skiba (vocals, guitar), Dan Andriano (vocals, bass), and Derek Grant have been the band’s members since 2001. (drums, vocals).
Skiba, bassist Rob Doran, and drummer Glenn Porter formed Alkaline Trio in late 1996 and released their debut song, “Sundials,” in 1997. Doran left the band after the album’s release, and Andriano took his place. After that, the band released an EP, For Your Lungs Only (1998), as well as their debut studio album, Goddamnit (1998). Porter left the band after the release of the band’s second album, Maybe I’ll Catch Fire (2000), and was replaced by Mike Felumlee for the band’s subsequent album, From Here to Infirmary (2001).
From Here to Infirmary, which featured the hits “Stupid Child” and “Private Eye,” considerably enhanced the band’s exposure, and its follow-up, Good Mourning (2003), peaked strongly on the Billboard 200. Derek Grant, the current drummer, made his recorded debut on Good Mourning. Crimson, published in 2005, built on the band’s punk rock inspirations, with major overdubs and additional instruments, and this trend was continued on Agony & Irony (2008), released on Epic Records.
This Addiction was released in 2010 on the band’s own labels Heart & Skull and Epitaph. The album, which was recorded in the band’s hometown of Chicago with early producer Matt Allison, was a conscious effort by the band to return to their punk rock beginnings; it became the band’s highest-charting album, entering at No. 11 on the Billboard 200. Damnesia, a new acoustic-based recording of songs throughout the band’s career, was released in 2011 to commemorate the band’s 15th anniversary. My Shame Is True, the band’s eighth studio album, was released on April 2, 2013.
