Sara Lynn Evans (born February 5, 1971) is a country music singer and songwriter from the United States. She is also a record producer, actress, and writer. She has five songs that have reached the top of the Billboard country songs list and sold over six million albums. Nine more singles, including “I Couldn’t Ask for More,” “I Still Searching,” and “Cheatin’,” has hit the top ten on the Billboard country chart. “Saints & Angels,” “Backseat of a Greyhound Bus,” and “As If” are among her top 20 charting songs. The Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association have both given her honors.
Evans’s career peaked in the 2000s, with the albums Born to Fly (2000), Restless (2003), and Real Nice Place (2006). (2005). The discs sold over one million copies each and included the number-one country singles “Born to Fly”, “Suds in the Bucket” and “A Real Nice Place to Start”. Evans participated on Dancing with the Stars in 2006 before quitting. Evans took a break from music to focus on her family, only releasing a Best Hits collection in 2008.
Her sixth studio album, Stronger, relaunched her career in 2011. It was supported by “A Little Bit Stronger,” a two-week number-one hit. Evans quit RCA after the release of Slow Me Down (2014) and founded her own record label. Words, her first album released with the company, was released in 2017. Evans’ music was initially influenced by honky tonk and neotraditional country, but after her second album, she turned to a greater emphasis on country-pop ballads. While her corpus of work has received mixed reviews, many critics have praised the strength and twang of her singing voice.
