Ricardo Emanuel Brown (born November 23, 1972), best known as Kurupt, is an American rapper and record producer who contributed to the birth of gangsta rap with 1990s lyrics that helped set long-lasting trends. Together with Daz Dillinger, he is one half of the rap group Tha Dogg Pound. In 1998, he released his debut solo album. After a quarrel, the pair reconnected in 2005.
Kurupt made his music debut in 1991 with three songs on the S.O.S. Band’s album One of Many Nights.
In a 2013 interview, Kendrick Lamar named Kurupt as one of his three biggest influences, alongside 2Pac and Ice Cube. Eminem revealed in his song “‘Till I Collapse” that he sees Kurupt as one of the best rappers of all time, saying “I got a list—the here’s order of my list that it’s in, it goes Reggie, Jay Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas, and then me”. In his book, There’s a God on the Mic, Kool Moe Dee put Kurupt 39th on his list of the top MCs of all time.
