Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand, best known by her stage name Foxy Brown, is an American rapper who was born on September 6, 1978. She joined Def Jam in 1996, and on November 19, 1996, she released her debut album, Ill Na Na. The RIAA awarded the album a platinum certification, and more than 7 million copies have been sold worldwide. She and Nas, AZ, and Cormega were all members of the hip-hop supergroup The Firm (who was later replaced by Nature). Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment published the lone album by The Firm in 1997. She became the second female rapper to top the chart after Lauryn Hill in 1998 when her second album, Chyna Doll, made its debut at the top of the Billboard 200.
The Grammy-nominated song “Na Na Be Like” was included in her third album, Broken Silence, which was released in 2001. She left Def Jam in 2003 and postponed the release of her Ill Na Na 2 album, but she later rejoined the company in 2005 after Jay-Z, who was then the label’s president and CEO, signed her again and asked her to start working on the unreleased Black Roses album. Her mixtape Brooklyn Don Diva was made available in May 2008, and King Soon Coming, her visual album, had been planned for release in 2019 but has since been postponed indefinitely.
