American rock group Interpol hails from Manhattan, New York. When they first started out in 1997, Paul Banks handled the lead vocals and rhythm guitar, followed by Daniel Kessler on lead guitar and Carlos Dengler on bass guitar and keyboards, and Greg Drudy on drums. (drums). In 2000, Drudy departed the band, and Sam Fogarino took his place. In 2010, Dengler left to work on other projects, and in place of finding a replacement, Banks took on the additional position of bassist.
Interpol’s debut album Turn On the Bright Lights (2002) was critically acclaimed, making it to No. 10 on NME’s list of the top albums of the year and No. 1 on Pitchfork Media’s list of the top 50 albums of the year. Subsequent records Antics (2004) and Our Love to Admire (2007) brought greater critical and commercial success. El Pintor, their fifth studio album, was made available in September 2014. In 2017, the group started an anniversary tour in support of Turn On the Bright Lights, playing the whole album live. Marauder, the band’s sixth studio album, and The Other Side of Make-Believe, their seventh, were both released in August 2018 and July 2022, respectively.
