Italian DJ, record producer, and remixer Marco “Benny” Benassi, pronounced [marko bnni benassi], was born on July 13, 1967. His 2002 summer club hit “Satisfaction” established the genre of electro house, which many consider being his creation. Along with his cousin Alessandro “Alle” Benassi, he founded the electronic music group Benassi Bros and began his career as a DJ. Although he started to become well-known under the moniker KMC in 1997 with the release of the song “Electric Flying,” his first big international hit was “I Feel So Good,” which was released in 2001.
Benassi’s solo debut album, Hypnotica, was well-received when it was released in 2003. It earned the European Boundary Breakers Award and is regarded as a pioneering album for electro-house since it combines electroclash noises, several house music components, and MacInTalk voices. The Benassi Brothers’ debut album, Pumphonia, was released the year after. When it finally peaked at number four on Hot Dance Club Play, their song “Illusion” was very well-liked in the American club scene. “Strike My Heart” was followed by a peak of 15. At the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008, his remix of Public Enemy’s “Bring the Noise” took home the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording. Benassi also made it into the Top 100 DJs list from DJ Mag in 2009 at position #26 and was ranked #7 on the DJ List website’s DJ Poll Top 100 in 2011.
