James Arthur is an English singer and songwriter who was born on March 2, 1988. After winning the ninth season of The X Factor in 2012, he gained notoriety. After the final, Syco Music published his debut single, a rendition of Shontelle’s “Impossible,” which debuted at the top of the UK Singles Chart. The most popular winner’s single in the show’s history, it has since sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide.
“You’re Nothing ’til Somebody Loves You” was the follow-up song, and it peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart. In November 2013, he issued his first studio album of the same name. On the UK Albums Chart, the album debuted and peaked at number two. He became embroiled in a number of problems following the publication of his debut studio album James Arthur, which prompted iTunes to provide refunds for the CD.
2014 saw Arthur part relations with Syco, Simon Cowell’s record label. He re-signed to Syco in 2016, and in 2015, he inked a new contract with Columbia Records to release his second studio album, Back from the Edge. Say You Won’t Let Go, the album’s debut single, was released in September 2016 to tremendous acclaim; as of February 2021, it had sold about 2.7 million copies and peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart. Released on October 28, 2016, Back from the Edge debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart. Following the release of various singles over the previous two years, Arthur released his third studio album, You, on October 18, 2019. This album debuted and reached its peak at position two on the UK Albums Chart. After Syco discontinued operations in February 2021, Arthur signed with Columbia Records UK and Columbia Records Germany.
