Austin Agustin Santos, best known by his stage name Arcángel, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who was born on December 23, 1985. His Dominican parents gave birth to him in New York City. He was considering breaking into the modern Latin American urban music genre of reggaeton in 2002. He later joined Arcángel & De La Ghetto, a well-known then-underground reggaeton outfit, while residing in Puerto Rico. The duo later produced songs like “Agresivo,” “Sorpresa,” and “Mi Fanática” in the middle of the 2000s that were well-liked by fans of reggaeton in the US and Puerto Rico.
El Fenómeno, Arcángel’s debut studio album, was later released in late 2008. Songs created in 2008 were featured on the album, as well as “Chica Virtual,” a song DJ Nelson created in 2007 and included on the producers’ album Flow La Discoteka 2. Half of the album also had freshly created songs, such as “Pa’ Que la Pases Bueno” and “Por Amar a Ciegas,” which later became popular songs that were played frequently on American Latin Urban radio stations throughout the country.
