Joseph Satriani, an American rock guitarist, musician, songwriter, and guitar teacher, was born on July 15, 1956. He taught guitar early in his career, and several of his former pupils went on to become well-known musicians. They included Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan, and Alex Skolnick. Satriani went on to have a successful solo music career, commencing in the late 1980s. He has over 10 million albums sold and has been nominated for a Grammy Award 15 times, making him the all-time best-selling instrumental rock guitarist.
On his first solo tour in 1988, Mick Jagger hired Satriani as the main guitarist. After Ritchie Blackmore left the group once more in November 1993, Satriani joined Deep Purple for a brief tour. Throughout the G3 tour, which he launched in 1995, he has collaborated with a variety of guitarists. Since joining the ensemble Chickenfoot in 2008, Satriani has served as the band’s guitarist.
