Young Thug is the stage name of Jeffery Lamar Williams, an American rapper, singer, and songwriter born on August 16, 1991. His songs have an impact on the contemporary sound of hip-hop and trap music, making him a prominent personality of his time. I Came from Nothing, the first of a series of independent mixtapes released by Thug in 2011, introduced his distinctive vocal and dress sense. In early 2013, he joined Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records, and later that year he released his label debut mixtape 1017 Thug to critical accolades.
The singles “The London” and “Hot,” which landed in the top twenty of the Billboard Hot 100, were featured on Young Thug’s debut studio album, So Much Fun (2019), which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The following year, his duet with Chris Brown, “Get Crazy,” off the mixtape Slime & B (2020), reached its Hot 100 high at number three, making it his first top-ten single as a lead artist. Also, he collaborated with M.I.A on Travis Scott’s single “Franchise,” which helped him climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for the second time in his career. In 2021, Thug released the compilation album Slime Language 2, which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200.
