Hannah Ellis first gained widespread recognition for “Officer Down,” her 2016 ode to her murdered cousin, but she also covered a number of other 2010s music fads. She made her debut in 2015 with a country song before participating in The Voice. Ellis progressed steadily in the direction of current pop after releasing an eponymous debut EP for Curb in 2017. She drew on inspirations from electronic, R&B, and rock in a number of duets while still reiterating her origins in the country through songs like 2022’s “Country Can.”
2018 saw the releases of “Mary, Did You Know?” and “The Middle (acoustic)” by Ellis. In 2019, she released the Nick Wayne duet “If the World Was Ending,” three solo singles (“Your Woman,” “Friends Like These,” and “Never in Love (acoustic)”), and one solo single (“Your Woman”). Both “Together” and “What If,” a song by Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano that was released before the end of 2020, including Ellis. She also collaborated with Jackson Michelson on “Together” for the duo’s album KING & COUNTRY. In 2021, Ellis released “Home and a Hometown” and “Us” as two solo songs in addition to “Home,” which she co-wrote with Stars Go Dim. The August release of “Country Can” in 2002 was preceded by an acoustic rendition of “Us.”
